Analyzing the players that Klinsmann has chosen, it is clear to see that there aren’t any natural wingers on the team. It appears that Klinsmann will take advantage of the U.S. depth at central midfield as he chose seven midfielders that either play in the center or holding positions.
Here is the formation that Klinsmann is likely to use (4-3-3):

Here is Klinsmann's likely starting XI: Tim Howard; Heath Pearce, Carlos Bocanegra, Tim Ream, Tim Chandler; Maurice Edu; Michael Bradley, Jermaine Jones; Brek Shea, Landon Donovan; Edson Buddle.
Analysis: In Klinsmann's 4-3-3 formation, the 47-year-old coach will likely use Buddle as a target man flanked by Shea and Donovan.
Buddle has a decent first touch and holds the ball well. Shea and Donovan should be able to find some scoring opportunities if he has a good performance.
The midfield will be where Klinsmann makes the biggest separation from his predecessor Bob Bradley. Whereas Bradley often opted for two holding players and two wingers, Klinsman will likely look for more service in the central area of the park.
Much to some U.S. fans' chagrin, Klinsmann will keep Michael Bradley in the starting lineup, because 24-year-old is arguably the team's most consistent player over the past few years. Bradley will pair with Jones, who will assist in providing distribution to the forwards.
Finally on defense, look for Klinsmann to place Ream back in the starting lineup. Yes, the New York Red Bulls defender made a major mistake against Panama, surrendering a penalty during the Gold Cup, but he is the United States' best passer on defense and will aid in the German manager's aim to retain possession. Other than that Chandler and Pearce will be options on the flanks and Bocanegra will continue to play centrally.
