Whilst Frank Lampard has undoubtedly been one of the best midfield players in the Premier League in the past ten years; there had been doubts about his ability to continue producing performances at the highest level. However, the London-born midfielder has confessed he still thrives on the unforgiving nature of football as he passes a 10-year milestone at Chelsea. Lampard joined Chelsea from West Ham in 2001 and believes he still has the ability to compete in the Premier League.
He stated, ‘I think the age thing has changed. People are pretty quick to write you off once you get into your 30s but they have proved to be a lot of players’ best years. Ryan Giggs was outstanding against us in the Champions League quarter-final last season – and in a lot of other games – at 37 years old…That’s what drives me on, I like being at the top. You should always be self-driven, regardless’.
Lampard is certainly a model professional having come through the prestigious West Ham Academy and has gone on to become one of the best players in his position in the world. He still has two years left on his £150,000 a week contract with the option of a further year. New Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas has used Lampard wisely in pre-season, very much aware of the fact he missed four months of last season with a groin injury. His experience in the team will be invaluable this season, in addition to developing young talents such as Josh McEachran at the club. The latest news can be found at www.chelseafc.com.
