Fernando Torres will hit top form soon for Chelsea - Petr Cech

The Spanish striker put in a good performance against Stoke City on Sunday but was unable to find the net, something the Czech goalkeeper believes will change soon

Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech has praised striker Fernando Torres after his impressive performance against Stoke City at the weekend.
Despite failing to get on the scoresheet, the 27-year-old forward was named man of the match in the 0-0 draw at the Britannia Stadium.
Cech has backed the Spaniard to build on his form and believes having had a pre-season with the club benefited the World Cup winner hugely.
The goalkeeper is quoted as saying by the Daily Mail: “It has made a huge difference that he had a pre-season with us.
“Sometimes when you come for such a huge amount of money to a different team and city everything changes and there is a lot of pressure.
“He had some injuries last season and it was not the ideal situation for him but you could see he was settling well every week.
“Now he has got to know the players and the way that we play.
“He had a really good game against Stoke and he deserved to get a goal. He was close on a few occasions; he created space and chances for the others.
“I thought Fernando was brilliant up front and it was just a pity we did not convert our chances. It was great to see.”
Torres is part of an array of attacking options available to Blues manager Andre Villas-Boas, who made his managerial debut in English football at the weekend.
Salomon Kalou and Florent Malouda started alongside the Spain international in a 4-3-3 formation against Stoke, but Didier Drogba, Nicolas Anelka and Daniel Sturridge are among the forwards who will be pushing for a regular starting berth this season.
Cech believes this competition will help the team thrive and says the long season ahead will mean a large squad is necessary to succeed.
“Having so many good strikers will definitely make a difference,” he added.
“The season is very long and we want to compete in every competition.
“This season there is the African Nations Cup and a lot of teams will be affected – we have a lot of Africans as well – so it is good to have a large squad.
“I think we have a very good squad, although I think the manager wants to get a couple more players.”
