United States and New York Red Bulls defender Tim Ream: I want revenge against Mexico

The 23-year-old defender is happy about getting a call up from Jurgen Klinsmann and wants to get revenge against Mexico after the heartbreaking Gold Cup final loss.

MONTCLAIR, NJ –  Despite being left on the bench in the Gold Cup final against Mexico, United States and New York Red Bulls defender Tim Ream hasn’t held back on wanting to settle the score against the Stars and Stripes' biggest rival.

“There is definitely still a sour feeling after being up 2-0 against them in the Gold Cup final,” said Ream. “Being able to go up against them again so quickly after a tough loss, I think there is a lot more motivation. Personally I want to get out there, take it to them, and get revenge on them.”

The Gold Cup final was an embarrassing result for the U.S. and many believe that former manager Bob Bradley’s inability to have his players defend the two goal lead over El Tri ultimately cost him his job. New U.S. head coach Jurgen Klinsmann has made several changes to the team’s roster for the upcoming rematch in Philadelphia on Aug. 10.

He has called up Jose Torres, Edgar Castillo and Brek Shea to name a few players and Ream expects the team to be a lot more offensive this time around. The 23-year-old was called by Klinsmann in a brief phone conversation and he is glad to be a part of the former Germany boss’ first US camp.

“It is an exciting time, especially considering the change in direction,” said Ream. “Personally, I am looking forward to meeting him, learning from him, and working with the entire coaching staff—whoever that may be. I’m glad, happy, and honored to be called in to the first camp (Klinsmann) is involved in”
