MAN U - PREMIER LEAGUE COUNT DOWN

New signings– Phil Jones has looked assured in the centre of defence whilst new keeper David de Gea has also shown his composure in pre-season. He was superb against Barcelona on Saturday evening, although he did not have a great deal to do. Ashley Young has also been lively and will provide the club with width and a real eye for a cross.
Star performer in pre-season – Nani has been superb in pre-season and put in a man of the match performance against Barcelona on Saturday. Wayne Rooney finished the tour with four goals and looks in fine form ahead of the new season.
Youngster watch – Tom Cleverley and Danny Welbeck have both impressed in pre-season having enjoyed loan-spells last season and could be set to feature in the first-team this season.
Title chance? – They enter the season as the favourites.
Strengths – They have an abundance of strikers at the club – Wayne Rooney, Dimitar Berbatov, Michael Owen, Javier Hernandez, Danny Welbeck, Federico Macheda and Mame Diouf. They also have an embarrassment of riches in the wide positions and a solid defence.
Weaknesses – They lack experience in goal and still need a central midfield player to complement Michael Carrick.
What they need – A creative central midfield player – Wesley Sneijder.

EVERTON - PREMIER LEAGUE COUNT DOWN

New signings– The club have yet to make a singular signing in the transfer market so far much to the frustration of David Moyes and the Everton fans. They are clearly working on an extremely tight budget and need investment if they are to progress.
Star performer in pre-season – The experienced Phil Neville has kept the club ticking over in pre-season. His attitude to the game is an example to any young player progressing through the club.
Youngster watch – Everton have a knack of producing young players and in Ross Barkley they have a player who some believe is as good was Wayne Rooney. Expect him to feature this season on a regular basis after a horrific knee injury kept him out last season.
Strengths – They have a strong core to their side and the class of Tim Cahill and Mikel Arteta means they always have a chance. A fit Louis Saha is also a major asset.
Weaknesses – They need a striker to play alongside Louis Saha as Victor Anichebe does not score anywhere near enough goals. They are also slow starters in the Premier League but must get off to a good start this time around.
What they need – A 20-goal a season striker.
